The Western Front of Germany during WWI
Paul and his regiment are seeing and experiencing the horrors of war and the death of friends
Almost all of the main characters have died, Kat is all that Paul has left. Though I'd guess that Kat is going to die, and paul is going to have to return home after losing all the guys he had grown close to and had considered brothers
The horrors of war, and probably the difficulty that Paul will have returning home after fighting and losing so many people close to him
